during dinner time, a chinese-ukrainian fusion restaurant on the lanzhou ancient street in lanzhou city of northwest china's gansu province is often full of customers.
owned by 31-year-old ukrainian alvina baidiuk and her chinese husband, the couple started up the restaurant in 2018, two years after they married.
in the restaurant, alvina tries to make the dining experience as authentically ukrainian as possible.
due to the covid-19 pandemic, the restaurant was temporarily closed from late 2019 to march 2021. now, alvina is confident that the steady flow of customers will be restored.
to provide familiar chinese tastes, alvina works with her kitchen team to select local products specific to gansu, such as the dingxi potato and gangu pepper. the dishes range from eastern european barbecue to spicy chinese dishes.
